Siren of the Void

Posted

Come out from the playland and play with me
I don't want to be alone
It is dangerous in there
I cut, I sliced at the foam to dangle my feet in the cool Void
But the metal frame beneath is hard
I cut deep into the frame
I writhed to get free
Look how it cut my side.

The Void is nice
There is no hard frame
We can swim forever without care
We fling sheets of plastic into the surf.
It floats quite well
If you gather it together

The island the frame sits on is not real
It floats, a speck in the Void
We would keep the frame for you
Cut it loose for you
Wrap it in new plastic
See how we work to cut it free
See how you push us away
We cut our hands on the jagged frame
For you
We peel away the concealing foam
For you

And you push us away
You rake your skin against our nails
As we try to pull you clear
It will be safer on the outside
We don't know if it will float.
If it floats, we can cling to it
If it sinks, no great loss to us.

Come out and swim with me in the Void
It is cool and it is free
If you are quick and if you are clever
You can swim between sheets of plastic
You can squirm away from the things
That lurk beneath
There are plenty of floating things to cling to
If you don't mind the smell
And its perfectly safe
So long as you never swim alone.
